Peggi Kroll Painting

• My goals and intentions for this project were to recreate a Peggi Kroll painting by sketching out the shapes rather than just the object.
• I accomplished my goals by using the right brain and focusing on the shapes of the shading.
• I was surprised at how hard it was to match colors with the originals.
• The most difficult challenge was to match colors with the original painting.
• I met that challenge by adding white or black to the colors I made to make them dark enough or light enough.
• I experienced the shift from left brain to right brain by focusing on the shapes rather than the overall picture.
• My picture really works with the cantaloupe and the colors of my objects.
• Something I learned going into my next piece was to label which part was which color to make it more obvious to me when I paint it and to use more paint and less water.
• Peggi Kroll is an artist I admire for this project because of her use of making something look like a bunch of color up close but an actual object from a couple of feet away.
• If I had a do-over I would label the pieces with their colors.
• I feel the best things are the colors and the cantaloupe.

Peggi Kroll Questions

• I learned from other artists how to map things out and add texture.
• I learned from Kroll how to paint a la prima and how to make things look differently up close than from a distant.
• Mapping is drawing all of the different shapes for each color before you paint.
• I didn't know how to paint a la prima nor how to match colors well before this project.
• Mr. Gaudreau was trying to make us understand how to see each color difference and each shape of the paintings.
• I remember the proper way to see and mix colors.
• I took away how to see each color as a different shape.
• I used LINE in the shape of each piece of fruit. I used COLOR in each color I mixed and blended. I used SPACE in the background of my painting. I used SHAPE in the shapes of the colors and objects. I used Texture in the background of the painting. I used VALUE in the value and amount of paint I used in my painting.
• PAINTERLY means uses the right side of the brain to create a masterpiece by focusing on the shapes of an object.
• Something I learned going into my next piece was to label which part was which color to make it more obvious to me when I paint it and to use more paint and less water.
