  • My goals and intentions for this piece were to get hair texture and shading correctly.
  • I accomplished my goals by looking at the eye and the hair texture.
  • I was surprised at how easy it was to make the hair and the fingers.
  • The most difficult challenge was creating the proper head shape.
  • I meet that challenge by breaking down the proportions of each part.
  • I experienced the shift from right brain to left by looking at the shapes and not the overall picture.
  • This piece really works with the eyes, hair, and fingers.
  • Something I learned going into my next piece is how to make things look realistic.
  • If I had a do-over I would make the pinky and phone look more realistic.
  • I feel that the best things are the fingers and the hair.

    Pond

    Jillian Kurzmann
    5/1/19

    • My goals and intentions for this piece were to create the indentations in the tree and use colors that you wouldn't normally use.
    • I accomplished my goals by looking carefully at how the ridges in the tree were curved.
    • I was surprised at how easy it was to. make the tree but at how hard it was to do it in different colors.
    • The most difficult challenge was using the purples and seeing all of the greens in the leaves.
    • I meet that challenge by breaking down each color of the leaves and by thinking like my role model artist for this painting.
    • I experienced the shift from right brain to left by focusing on the colors and shapes of the leaves and grooves in the tree.
    • This piece really works with the leaves and tree branches.
    • An artist that inspired me was Wolf Kahn because of all of his bright colors and his prospective on landscapes.
    • Something I learned going into my next painting is how to look at things through a new prospective.
    • If I had a do-over I would add more grooves and detail to the tree.
    • I feel that the best things are the branches and leaves.

    Black Object Painting

    Jillian Kurzmann
    3/28/19

    • My goals and intentions for this piece were to create shapes and object that I have never done before and create the color reflection in the objects.
    • I accomplished my goals by looking carefully at the reflected colors and looking at the shape of each part of each object.
    • I was surprised at how difficult it is to create the horse and all of the details on the horse.
    • The most difficult challenge was to create the horse and see the shapes of the bubbles in the crystal ball.
    • I meet that challenge by breaking dow each part of the objects and looking at the individual colors.
    • I experienced the shift from right brain to left by focusing on the shapes and reflection of each object and its colors.
    • This piece really works with the crystal ball and the horse.
    • An artist that inspired me was Henry Stinson because of his simple strokes and colors that from a distance turn into objects.
    • Something I learned going into my next painting is how to look at the reflections and paint things that are clear.
    • If I had a do-over I would add more detail to the flower.
    • I feel that the best things are the crystal ball and the horse.

    Easter Egg Microlab

    Jillian Kurzmann
    2/11/19

    • My goals and intentions for this piece were to match the colors and create the color reflection in the objects.
    • I accomplished my goals by looking carefully at the reflected colors and looking carefully at the colors of the shading.
    • I was surprised at how many different shapes and shadows are reflected in the objects.
    • The most difficult challenge was matching the shapes of the shading in the chicken.
    • I meet that challenge by looking very carefully at where the lines met and how the lines were shaped.
    • I experienced the shift from right brain to left by focusing on the shapes of each color instead of the overall picture.
    • This piece really works with the shapes of all of the objects and the chicken.
    • An artist that inspired me was Henry Stinson because of his vibrant colors and his loose sketching.
    • Something I learned going into my next painting is how to look at the reflections in certain objects.
    • If I had a do-over I would choose a different color instead of black for the background.
    • I feel that the best things are the chicken and the reflections in the eggs.

    Extra Credit Painting

    Jillian Kurzmann
    2/27/19

I came up with the idea from the song Castle on a Cloud from Les Mis. I then, googled pictures of castles on cloud and I found one I liked and I changed the background. I like the shading on the Castle where the light hits it. I also like the background shapes.

    3 Shiny Objects

    Jillian Kurzmann
    2/27/19

    • My goals and intentions for this art piece were to paint the objects without any detail and to match all of the different shades of blue.
    • I accomplished my goals by using the primary blue paint and I looked only at the shapes on the objects and not the details.
    • I was surprised at how easy it was to paint the nail polish bottle and how hard it was to make the different shades of blue.
    • The most difficult challenge was creating the different shades on the airplane and creating the shadow.
    • I met that challenge by color matching my patches of paint and I was very careful with my curves in my shadow.
    • I experienced the shift from right brain to left brain when I focused on the shapes and no the details of the objects.
    • This picture really works with the nail polish and the cup.
    • An artist that inspired me was Peggi Kroll with her fascination for ordinary, everyday, small objects.
    • Something I learned for my next painting was to make the background more solid and to make the airplane shading more definite.
    • If I have a do-over I would men the background more solid.
    • I feel the best things are the nail polish and the cup.

    25 Stroke Painting

    Jillian Kurzmann
    2/19/19

    • My goals and intentions for this painting were to paint the pool ball in 25 paint strokes
    • I accomplished my goal by not removing the brush from the paper unless necessary to safe up strokes to perfect the lines of the pool ball.
    • I was surprised at how easy it was to fill-in all 25 strokes and how easy it was to make black and grey paint.
    • The most difficult challenge was getting the number 5 on the pool ball correct.
    • I meet that challenge by being very careful of how to paint the number.
    • I experienced the shift from left brain to right brain with the when looking at each individual color and shape in the pool ball.
    • The picture really works with the shadow and the colors in the pool ball.
    • An artist that inspired me was Peggi Kroll because of how she did all of her work A La Prima and she didn't go over her paint more than once.
    • Something I learned going into my next painting is how to make black and grey paint.
    • If I had a do over I would make the distinction in the shapes in the pool ball more noticeable.
    • I feel the best things are the number 5 and the shading and shapes in the painting.

    Pool Ball Painting

    Jillian Kurzmann
    2/10/19

    • My goals and intentions for this painting were to create all of the different shades of the colors and also creating a red line between the different shapes.
    • I accomplished my goals by looking very hard at the different objects that reflected in the pool ball and what colors those objects created.
    • I was surprised at how hard it was to see all of the different colors in the pool ball.
    • The most difficult challenge was to create all of the different colors with the paint and to not cross the red lines.
    • I met that challenge by looking very carefully at the different shapes and the different shading of the pool ball.
    • I experienced the shift from left brain to right brain when I focused on the shapes and different colors of the pool ball.
    • This picture really works with the colors of the shapes on the pool ball.
    • An artist that inspired me was Peggi Kroll because of her use of shapes and color mixtures.
    • Something I learned going into my next piece was to map out the red lines better.
    • If I had a do-over, I would map out the red lines better.
    • I feel the best things are the colors and the different shapes in the pool ball.

    Peggi Kroll Painting

    Jillian Kurzmann
    1/30/19

    • My goals and intentions for this project were to recreate a Peggi Kroll painting by sketching out the shapes rather than just the object.
    • I accomplished my goals by using the right brain and focusing on the shapes of the shading.
    • I was surprised at how hard it was to match colors with the originals.
    • The most difficult challenge was to match colors with the original painting.
    • I met that challenge by adding white or black to the colors I made to make them dark enough or light enough.
    • I experienced the shift from left brain to right brain by focusing on the shapes rather than the overall picture.
    • My picture really works with the cantaloupe and the colors of my objects.
    • Something I learned going into my next piece was to label which part was which color to make it more obvious to me when I paint it and to use more paint and less water.
    • Peggi Kroll is an artist I admire for this project because of her use of making something look like a bunch of color up close but an actual object from a couple of feet away.
    • If I had a do-over I would label the pieces with their colors.
    • I feel the best things are the colors and the cantaloupe.
    Peggi Kroll Questions
    • I learned from other artists how to map things out and add texture.
    • I learned from Kroll how to paint a la prima and how to make things look differently up close than from a distant.
    • Mapping is drawing all of the different shapes for each color before you paint.
    • I didn't know how to paint a la prima nor how to match colors well before this project.
    • Mr. Gaudreau was trying to make us understand how to see each color difference and each shape of the paintings.
    • I remember the proper way to see and mix colors.
    • I took away how to see each color as a different shape.
    • I used LINE in the shape of each piece of fruit. I used COLOR in each color I mixed and blended. I used SPACE in the background of my painting. I used SHAPE in the shapes of the colors and objects. I used Texture in the background of the painting. I used VALUE in the value and amount of paint I used in my painting.
    • PAINTERLY means uses the right side of the brain to create a masterpiece by focusing on the shapes of an object.
    • Something I learned going into my next piece was to label which part was which color to make it more obvious to me when I paint it and to use more paint and less water.
